๐Ÿงผ Why Did That Carpet Spot Come Back?

August 20, 2026

You cleaned it. It disappeared. A few days later—it returned.

This is commonly called wicking.

A spill can travel deeper than the visible carpet fibers and reach the backing or padding. When the area is heavily soaked or dries too slowly, that contamination can rise back toward the surface as the carpet dries.

Repeatedly pouring more spot cleaner on it can make the problem worse by:

โŒ Spreading the spill deeper
โŒ Leaving sticky soap residue
โŒ Attracting new dirt
โŒ Damaging or discoloring the carpet

If you have a fresh spill:

  1. Blot it—don’t scrub it.
  2. Use a clean white towel.
  3. Avoid saturating the carpet.
  4. Call a professional if the spot returns or has an odor.

At HSquared Carpet Cleaning, we use professional equipment, proven chemistry, proper extraction, and drying techniques to treat more than what you can see on the surface.
